Sport
The City of Frydek-Mistek is for its geographic location also known as “the gateway to Beskydy“ and for its residents and visitors it is the starting point of many hiking, biking and equestrian trails leading to the Beskydy Mountains. In winter it is the same for lovers of skiing – not only trails but also the slopes in the vicinity of the city.
On the territory of the city is located number of sport facilities. The most attractive is the Olesna Aquapark consisting of indoor and summer part with swimming pools and recreational attractions for both children and adults. Aquapark is located near Olesna dam where canoeists, surfers and sailors practice their sports.
There also are two indoor swimming pools – one at secondary school campus at Pionyru 2069 and second at the Primary school, Jiriho z Podebrad 3109. In the middle of the city on the bank of the Ostravice river is a multi-purpose sport hall, which offers not only the ice rink for winter sports but also a possibility to adjust it for various sport grounds or stage for cultural and social events or exhibition space.
The City of Frydek-Mistek is currently reconstructing the Stovky football campus, where since November 1, 2009 is being played on modern artificial turf. Besides the main football pitch there are two other pitches with natural grass. Football fields are also in the outskirts Chlebovice and Liskovec. In the city center there is a TJ Slezan Frydek-Mistek sports complex with a quality athletic oval (where works a successful athletic club), football field and playground for baseball or softball. The city also has two sport halls with auditorium (Primary school, Pionyru 400 and Primary school, 1. maje 1700) designed for ball sports, especially handball and volleyball, where SKP Frydek-Mistek and TJ Sokol Frydek- Mistek sport clubs reach peak levels.
For the children, youth and adult sportsman is in the city available 20 school gyms, 20 other facilities for physical education and 60 public sport grounds. The city reconstructs them step by step. Popular also are facilities for fitness and aerobics, squash, tennis, bowling and regeneration centers (facilities are listed in the menu below).
The City of Frydek-Mistek financially supports activities and competitions organized by sports organizations and through the Sport Center Project supports the activities of the sport clubs in elementary schools, designed to bring children to physical activities. Pupils attending sport clubs during the school year participate in many competitions organized by the School Sport Clubs Association, where they often achieve excellent results. In the sports calendar there are many events, competitions and tournaments organized by local sport clubs. Besides the above mentioned sport clubs, Beskydy Chess School is not only an excellent representative of the city, but also a frequent organizer of tournaments.
